What i Heart Now: Lipstick

what-i-heart-now

“Come here and give me a kiss!” those old farts used to say to me. Cheek pinching ensued soon after.

“Yuck!” was my remark to those wrinkly folks, wiping my cheek of that chalky, nasty lip junk that was never colored inside the lines, pun intended.

That’s what I used to think of lipstick. Then the Wall Street Journal published an article where the author had a shocking experience. Looking through a year’s worth of photos, she chose four that she liked. Four. Her resolution after looking at the photos and realizing (but accepting) that she was aging was to slather on some lipstick for future photo ops.

I read the article the day I photographed “How i Wore It: Comfy and Cozy.” “Hmmm…” I thought, “let me try this out.” So, I walked three blocks to CVS, picked a sultry dark brown shade, and started snapping. Editing Looking at the photos, I liked what I saw. The author was right – lipstick is a quick way to look put together, just like my Kate Spade watch and clutch. The author even gave tips and tricks, courtesy of makeup artist April Greaves (who she is, I have no idea, but she sounds important), on application so that when I’m a wrinkly prune sixty years from now, I can give those little tots lots of smooches without maring my appearance or their emotions.

Haha, love this. I tried wearing lipstick for a couple months this Spring, and though it photographed well it just didn’t feel “right.” I’ve since switched to a tinted lip balm and so far so good. It adds a little color without feeling like a mask. Maybe one day I’ll bite the bullet and wearing lipstick everyday. You never know.

Lipstick is probably a good idea for photo-ops. I wish I could get myself into it, the closest thing I have been able to do is a tinted lip gloss. Maybe for my wedding I will get some!

Hilarious! I always reach for my lipsticks when I’m feeling a bit “ugh…” like, “hey? where’d that zit (or 5) come from? sigh… gonna be a lipstick day!” always perks me up and makes me feel pretty! I love your sort of 90’s/gothy picks here – chocolate brown is so cool! Gotta try that one!

I have never been into lipstick…probably because I’m so light. I have trouble deciding if the lipstick looks too dark, but I am really liking the Rum Raisin shade that you showed. πŸ™‚

Incidently Rum Raisan by Booby Brown is one of my favorite lipsticks but Revlon also makes a Rum Raisan but its more on the brown side. Can you tell I love lipstitck. I recently finished photographing a tutorial on how to make your own lippie pallet that doesn’t look a smooshed up mess because it turned out I own 50+ lipsticks. Though to be fair I should point out with coupons you can get most of your makeup next to free

I’m a lipstick lover! I don’t wear it to work since my job is casual and outside, so I feel instantly dressed-up and grownup when I wear it in the evening or on the weekend. πŸ™‚

I can just see you now – in your sneakers, tee, and lipstick. Ha!

I don’t think I’ve worn lipstick since my mom used to put it on me for pictures in grade school. Honestly the application of it kind of scares me – which sounds silly, but I always feel like ladies either wear it beautifully or it looks cakey and disgusting. I seriously do need to venture out past my lipgloss though instead of admiring it from afar πŸ™‚ The shades you’ve picked out above are quite lovely.

i am still trying to get on the lipstick train, i can do paler shades but i always feel like dark shades make me self conscious! like my lips are shouting “look at me!!” ….i would love to someone who confidently wears red lipstick! πŸ™‚

Uh, I am in love with lipstick! Although I only own one. Hm. But I seriously love my black lipstick, it’s so witchy. And I love all those colors in the picture above. <3

I’ve gained a new found love for lipstick. I’ve come far from the Chapstick days onto nude pink and dramatic oxblood. I love your Chocolate pick!

Maybe I need to look into it. I am always afraid to wear it because I am afraid to be one of those people that have lipstick on their teeth and nobody tells them lol.

I was just thinking of doing a lipstick post! I wear it to try and stop me from biting my lips all day and night. Plus I think it makes you look fancy. My old boss used to ask me everyday that I wore lipstick if I was going on a job interview that day! HA!

Oh I LOVE lipstick!! It’s one of the few things that can transform me from bummy to chic all by itself. Seriously. Jeans and a tshirt with sneakers and a bad hair day = bummy…. add red lipstick and VOILA! Chic! ^__^ I don’t wear it every day but I always wear it when I need an extra boost of confidence or I just want to feel extra pretty πŸ™‚
