“And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow,
stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled ’till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.”
-Dr. Suess – How The Grinch Stole Christmas
The Grinch knew it – Christmas doesn’t come from presents. You don’t have to stand out in the blistering cold, or in my case, the sand (I’m in Florida for the holiday), to realize that the greatest gifts aren’t materials but feelings. The feeling of inclusion, the feeling of acceptance, the feeling of family, and the feeling of coolness. You, my friends, have given me this throughout the past year. There are no presents under my tree because my I’ve already unwrapped my presents from you.
Merry Christmas, from me and Madalynne.
(DISCLAIMER: Santa – this is no way, shape, or form means that I don’t expect a prompt delivery of my Kate Spade watch, 1950s bullet bra, or peach morganite ring tomorrow morning. My Christmas list was a little late this year but I paid extra for overnight delivery. And the recession is no excuse for the high price tags. Quality, not quantity Santa!)
