New York Recap: Blogshop

blogshop1I met Bri Emery. Let me write that again, this time with an exclamation point. I met Bri Emery!

Bri Emery is the blogger behind D E S I G N L O V E F E S T, one of the most inspirational images I follow. Β She’s not a seamstress and her posts don’t cover slashing and opening, stitch tension, or completed Renfrew tops. She’s a blogger that writes about fashion, DIY tutorials, graphic design, Photoshop, and typeface, which is a unique combination in the blogosphere. Her photos and her style are even more swoon-worthy. Bright, cheery, and happy are each of her photos, outfits, and demeanor.

Bri teaches one day workshops called BlogshopΒ which are basically crash courses in Photoshop that are tailored to bloggers. One of the classes I have been interested in is her video workshop. I know Photoshop but video boggles my mind.Β I was lucky enough to reserve a spot in her New York class and I cannot say how much I learned in such a short period of time. Briefly put, Photoshop’s latest version, CS6, has a new capability – video. Using layers, transitions, and music, dreamy and inspiration videos just like this one are possible for normal folks. I highly recommend taking the class if you’re interested in getting into video.

I thanked Bri and Angela (her partner in crime) for hosting the workshop but I want to thank them again. It doesn’t matter if they will or are reading this. My sincerest gratitude goes out to you ladies.

Why are there chairs on the wall? You know what? I don’t even care that chairs are on the wall because they look cool and now I WANT TO SIT ON THEM. The old boxes and lights actually gave me an idea for my own wedding decorations (thank you, mom, and your need to collect every antique cheese box you find). Objects aside, what a fantastic opportunity! Video boggles me, too. I know nothing about it. Actually, I don’t know a lot about a lot of things. I just accept magic as the answer.

No, they don’t talk about photography. Because the workshop concentrates on video, they assume that you know about photography. I’d check out Groupon for photography workshops. That’s where I find most of the photography workshops I attend.

You’re going to Alt? Girl, I’d choose Alt over Blogshop any day of the week.

I’d love to attend one of these video workshops–lucky you! It seems like they always find the awesomest inspirational spaces to host them in, too. Their recent Austin workshop was happening during my sew-along, so I was too busy to think about it. I really need to upgrade my Photoshop to CS6 and try that feature out. My husband uses Final Cut Pro but it’s such a massive program and gives me option anxiety.

I’m really hoping I might catch this workshop the next time they’re in town. Did they talk at all about Vine? I’m still trying to figure that app out. It’s a little intimidating to me.

No, they didn’t talk about Vine and I am surprised. It’s all the rage, right? Vine is a little intimidating to me, mostly because I haven’t become comfortable with seeing myself on camera.

They just added new dates and Philly is on their list. I don’t know if it’s the video workshop but you should attend for sure, especially considering your new position.

They didn’t talk about Vine and that surprised me. It’s all the rage, right? It intimidates me more than these videos because it shows who you are more -there’s less editing- and it’s hard to watch myself.

That’s great! I’ve been wanting to take that course but for whatever reason I haven’t yet.. emphasis on YET. πŸ™‚ Lovely photos and I’m a wee bit envious of your time in NYC.
