What I Made: Amari

What I Made: Amari

Let me set the scene here. Late last week and just a few days after I jetted to Los Angeles to film Mimi G’s tutorial, Jennifer and I were in the studio when she asked me what we were doing that day. Who’s Jennifer? Well, she’s been my right hand gal since leaving the corporate world, assistant you could say. I like to refer to her as Assistant to the Chief Panty Girl, which is me ; ) I’m legit folks. “I haven’t made anything for myself in months. I just want to sew something for me.” So, being selfish is what I did that day. About 5 hours later, I whipped up this burnt orange number. Y’all, it’s been months since I spit out a me-made and damn, did it feel so, so good.

Fabric, Trims, Pattern and Construction
A testament of how easy this project was, there was only one fabric/trim. A burnt orange Lycra I swooped up from Spandex House back in December. Seriously, they have the best and most expansive selection of stretch fabric. Even ones with donuts and ice cream cones on it. Because why not?

How did I make the pattern? Easy. I took apart this Abercrombie bodysuit, traced around all 4 pieces, not making one adjustment except for extending the length of the flared sleeves as well as slashing and opening to create, well, more flare.

What about construction? Entirely sewn on my Coverlock 4.0 except for the crotch opening. Booyah!

Comments
Pun intended, it doesn’t take much to add the right amount of flare to a basic. Looking ahead, I’m all about the flares. Chokers and pom poms too.

If you’re in a need of a quickie, I highly suggest buying a cheapo garment, rubbing off the pattern, and sewing yourself something. Treat yo’self!
